For over six decades, the town of Hawley, Minnesota, has proudly produced one of the most anticipated rodeos in northern Minnesota. Since 1959, the Hawley Rodeo has been more than just a rodeo—it has been a celebration of community, tradition, and Western heritage. Local residents Amy Anderson and Jody Johnson-Jackson organize the volunteers, prepare the rodeo grounds, and gather support in many ways as the official Hawley Rodeo Co-Chairs.
A Rodeo Rooted in Tradition
Each year, the American Heroes PRCA Rodeo transforms Hawley into a bustling hub of rodeo action, drawing contestants, fans, and families from across the region. The Barnes PRCA Rodeo brings its award-winning animal athletes, while top rodeo clowns and specialty acts keep the crowd entertained.
Over the years, Hawley has welcomed legendary rodeo performers each bringing their own brand of humor and showmanship to the arena. The past several years the Fargo Memorial Honor Guard has proudly presented the colors, ensuring that patriotism remains at the heart of the event.
Beyond the Rodeo: A Weekend of Community Festivities
The Hawley Rodeo isn’t just about thrills in the arena—it’s about bringing the town together. The rodeo weekend is packed with beloved local traditions, including:
- Hawley Rodeo Fest Car Show – Classic cars and motorcycles line the streets as enthusiasts gather to admire vintage rides and custom builds. Sponsored by Car King Auto, the event features door prizes, trophies, and dash plaques for the first 50 registered vehicles.
- Pie Social – A sweet tradition where locals and visitors alike indulge in homemade pies, swapping stories and enjoying the warm hospitality that Hawley is known for.
- Pancake Breakfast at the Firehouse – Hosted by the Hawley Volunteer Fire Department, this hearty breakfast fuels rodeo-goers for a day of excitement. Families gather for fluffy pancakes, sizzling bacon, and fresh coffee, all served by local firefighters.
- Rodeo Parade – A colorful procession featuring rodeo queens, local organizations, and decorated floats, winding through downtown Hawley on Saturday afternoon before the rodeo gates open at 5 p.m.
A Town That Keeps Tradition Alive
Hawley may be a small town, but its dedication to Western heritage is mighty. Beyond rodeo, Hawley is also famous for the Hjemkomst, a full-scale Viking ship replica built in the Hawley Shipyard before embarking on its historic voyage to Norway.
From thrilling rodeo action to community gatherings, the Hawley Rodeo continues to be a cherished tradition, proving that big things happen in small towns. See you next year – the dates are June 5-6, 2026.

Singing in the rain – literally! Brielle did a wonderful job singing our national anthem on Saturday night in 2025. She was soaked when she returned the microphone back to the crow’s nest.

Muddy socks were a result of competing in the Kids Boot Scramble presented by Boot Barn. These Fargo friends were all smiles on Saturday. It rained almost the entire performance.
