“Our biggest focus is bringing rodeo action back. The mayor is a big part of making this happen,” said Jody Burnside, a native of Tetonia. “There are volunteers and people helping that were contestants back in the day too. We wanted to see the old rodeo grounds come back to life. It is a unique place to compete, and to go camping with a beautiful view of the Tetons,” he further explained.
Burnside, a 1987 graduate of Driggs High School, won the bareback riding at the Tetonia Rodeo Grounds back in the early 90s. Today he is a co-owner of Big Bucks ProRodeo with Cody Flitton producing events across the country. He will also compete in the PRCA section of Team Roping this weekend with his partner Kash Cook.
Bringing Rodeo back to Tetonia – A Community Event
Three years ago, a Tetonia Rodeo Grounds Committee was established to help organize and lead equipment updates, clean-up efforts and other needed maintenance. About Buckin’ by the Tetons
Buckin’ by the Tetons celebrates the traditions, competition and community spirit of the American West. Held in Tetonia, Idaho, the event brings together competitors, families and visitors for a weekend showcasing rodeo excellence against the scenic backdrop of the Tetons.
About Big Bucks ProRodeo: It began in 2024 but its history goes back to 1940. Big Bucks carries two legendary bucking horse bloodlines, bred to buck from two different families in two different rodeo circuits. Cody Flitton partnered with Jody Burnside, to purchase the Mosbrucker Rodeo Company. The Burnside family, with four generations of PRCA competitors, have competed in bull riding, steer wrestling, team roping, bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, and calf roping.
Flitton’s great grandfather, D.A. Swanny Kerby wrangled wild horses from the slick rocks of Moab, Utah. Swanny had a dream of putting on wild west shows. He became part of the PRCA in 1940 with his bred to buck horses and bulls. The Kerby’s livestock selection dates back to the first National Finals Rodeo in 1959. Flitton was born and raised into the Kerby rodeo company.
